3 Money-Wasting Moving Mistakes To Avoid

Blog

Do you have a move coming up? If so, hopefully you've already hired a moving company to help take a lot of the stress out of the process. However, even if you've already got a moving company selected and have gotten a jump start on your packing, there are still some things that could go wrong. By avoiding these costly, but common, moving mistakes, you can ensure that your move goes as smoothly as possible.

Paying for Moving Supplies

Sure, there are a lot of supplies that you need to prepare for your move. Boxes, packing tape, Styrofoam, and other packing supplies are a must for efficient packing. However, if you're buying all of these supplies from your moving company or a local supply store, you could be wasting a lot of your hard-earned money. More than likely, if you ask around at local retail stores, they'll be more than happy to give you some of their spare boxes (which are often leftover following a truck day). If you're lucky, you may even be able to pick up some free foam peanuts and other used packaging supplies this way.

Failure to Take Measurements

Another potentially costly mistake you'll want to avoid while preparing for your move is failing to adequately take measurements in your new place. This includes not only measuring walls and floor space, but windows and doorways as well. The last thing you want is to find that the brand new furniture set you bought for your living room has no feasible way of fitting in your home. Even if doorways are wide enough, be on the lookout for awkward doorways with half-walls, which can make maneuvering larger furniture into your new space difficult--if not downright impossible.

Not Keeping Your Receipts

Finally since there are a number of tax breaks that you could be entitled to (especially if you're relocating for employment purposes) as a result of your move. Therefore, you'll want to be careful to not only research possible tax deductions but to save any and all receipts from your move as well. Unfortunately, without those receipts, you'll have no way of claiming those deductions come tax time. Consider keeping all of your moving receipts in a designated folder that won't get misplaced during the moving process.

By avoiding these moving mistakes, you'll be sure to save money on your upcoming move and reduce some stress in the process. Click here for more information on movings tips and advice on packing up your home.

Exploring Airport Transportation Options

Hi there, I am Taylor Eilson. I hope that you will visit my site all of the time to talk about airport transportation. When I first started my career, I was so scared of traveling from place to place for business meetings. The process of storing my car, making it to my flight on time and moving around town without a personal vehicle felt daunting at first. Luckily, with my first experience taking a cab to the airport, all of those feelings changed. From that point on, I vowed to try out all of the airport transportation options available to find my favorite ones. I hope that I can help others find their favorite way to travel to and from the airport in style. Please come by anytime to learn more.
